Poundstone is a family owned and operated winery focused on producing small lot wines from the Carneros region of Sonoma and Napa Valley.
Poundstone was inspired by Melody's grandmother, Jessie Doris Poundstone, who was an instrumental figure in Melody's life running the family ranch in Northern California. Both of Melody's grandmothers were the family matriarchs, farming the land, modeling the way to be a strong, nurturing leader, thus shaping who Melody is today.
Farming the land goes back multiple generations. The family learned the value of hard work and the challenges that come with wind, frost, and nature.
Siblings, Melody and Bryan grew up in Northern California where they learned to farm and got their hands dirty. Known as the young ones, they learned how to drive tractor before they could legally drive a car. Northern California soil is in their blood. They respect the land and focus on sustainable farming.
Yearning to create the next generation of farming, Melody purchased 4 acres of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines in Sonoma in 2007. She made her first wine in 2008 which marked the beginning of the family business.
When Melody started making wine, she sought out a collaborator and partner. Bruce Devlin and Melody have been working together since 2007 to make wines they both love. Bruce is a mentor, friend, and critical part of Poundstone's success.
Melody loves to drink Chablis-style whites and Burgundian reds which reflect in the wines. Melody made wine under multiple labels before launching the Poundstone label in 2013.
Bryan married Cristen and the partnership expanded. Bryan and Cristen joined Melody in 2011. The family collaborates and partners on all aspects of staying true to the farming roots. The rest as they say is history.
