The quail was Grandma Jessie's spirit animal. It was no surprise that quails inhabit our Sonoma property. Quails make socializing a priority in their life and thrive in group projects. They enjoy nurturing and giving. They also love a meaningful and difficult challenge. The quail represents our commitment to responsible farming, our family's connection to community, and our collaborative approach to producing wine.
Tactility and studied contrast is at the core of Kelly Tunstall's label design for Poundstone; rich golds float on textured cream stock embossed with calligraphed feathers. In contrast, our iconic mother daughter quail pair are rendered in a clean, modern style.
Kelly Tunstall is a San Francisco artist and designer. Kelly and Melody wanted to create something unique and rule breaking through a combination of traditional design integrated with the inimitable nature of hand-drawn elements and reversal of traditional color on the label (white label for red wine).
Tunstall has shown nationally and internationally, often in collaboration with her husband, Ferris Plock. Her work is on permanent view at San Francisco's Michelin-starred SPQR, A16, and Bar Crudo, A16 Rockridge and at Alcazar and Cheeky's in Palm Springs.
